Hi, I have this curiosity. Why you never explain to all these people that you are legally obliged to not reveal your company creative, marketing and business strategies years in advance if you want to keep your job and not ending facing millionaire fees and that it's meaningless that they call you liar or hypocrite and even ask these questions only because they don't have a clue how the real world works?
Well, it’s not quite as bad as all that.
There’s certainly stuff that for one reason or another I cannot share publicly or even get into. The situation with the Malibu characters is an example of that. But there is plenty that I can answer.
That all said, it’s pretty obvious that I’m not going to ruin future story surprises or twists ahead of time or tell you what’s going to happen next—so those questions invariably get a “wait and see” style answer.
Actually, I was wondering about Malibu. Is there any lawyerly forward movement (no need to be specific at all)? It’s been, what?, 15 years at least since the characters were published. Won’t their copyrights (or is it trademarks?), if they are not used, run out at some point in the near future, thereby dumping them into public domain? I’m just curious, that’s all. Thanks, if you answer.
